The Dawn of the Later Heaven Gaebyeok

The following content outlines the prophecy in Sangjenim's Dojeon that discusses the years 2025 through 2027 (corresponding to the Earthly Branches Sa [Snake], O [Horse], and Mi [Sheep]). The poetic expression of the scripture reveals profound cosmic principles, but its true meaning can be understood only by comprehending Eastern cosmology. The prophecies focus on the role of the Twelve Earthly Branches in accomplishing Sangjenim’s work. Key interpretations are as follows:


Revelation of Dao during Sa-O-Mi (2025–2027):

  1. The scripture states, “The sun crosses the meridian in the Hours of the Snake, Horse, and Sheep, and my dao and the tides of the world are brightly revealed.” This indicates that during these three years, Sangjenim’s teachings and path (dao) will be fully revealed to the world.

  2. Emergence of a Founding Emperor from the East:
    The scripture says, “When trading subsides and the market closes, a founding emperor emerges from the direction Jin.” This signifies that after the Sa-O-Mi period, a new founder of civilization will emerge from Jin (representing the east, particularly the Korean Peninsula).

  3. Yearly Energy Continuity:
    Sangjenim proclaimed, “The destiny of one year lasts until the April of the next year.” This suggests that the energy and events of a given year influence the following year up until April.

  4. Transformations and Festivity:
    According to the prophecy, “In the Years of the Dragon and Snake, a holy sage emerges, and in the Years of the Horse and Sheep, bliss fills every house of my dao.” This indicates that in 2024 and 2025, a sage will appear to guide humanity, leading to a celebratory atmosphere during 2026 and 2027 as Sangjenim’s teachings take root.

  5. Symbolism of Green Clouds and Red Leopards:
    The line, “A green cloud rises in the east, casting a Holy Spirit in the air,” signifies auspicious energy emerging from the east in 2023 and 2024 (Years of the Rabbit and Dragon). The “red leopard” symbolizes smallpox, which is foretold to reappear as a precursor to greater upheaval.

  6. Imminent Catastrophe in 2025:
    The scripture, “At the time when the tiger, rabbit, dragon, and snake meet,” likely refers to a specific day in April 2025, suggesting a significant event of great human sacrifice. The prophecy continues with the line, “Among the world’s people, though they are blameless, only one in ten thousand survives,” indicating a devastating loss of life.

  7. Smallpox as a Warning:
    Sangjenim’s teaching predicts the resurgence of smallpox before the great renewal of the world. This will signal the arrival of a catastrophic disease, urging followers to prepare spiritually and mentally for the times ahead.

  8. War and Global Upheaval:
    The prophecy hints at a massive war around 2026 (the Year of the Horse). Sangjenim states, “By all means, be mindful. My dosu is the dosu in which the outside converges inward, so keenly observe the grand tides of the world.”

  9. Call to Action:
    This period of three years (2025–2027) is seen as a critical turning point. Followers are encouraged to focus on Sangjenim’s teachings, engage in spiritual discipline, and seek enlightenment to ensure survival and renewal. Special ceremonies, such as the Dongji Chiseong (Winter Solstice Ritual), are considered pivotal for spiritual alignment.

Through these teachings, the Dojeon verses emphasize preparation, resilience, and alignment with the cosmic order during a time of profound transformation.


One day, Sangjenim composed a poem and gave it to Gim Byeong-seon:

日入酉配 亥子難分
日出寅卯辰 事不知
日正巳午未 開明
日中爲市交易退 帝出震

The sun sets in the Hour of the Rooster,
obscuring all in darkness as in the Hours of the Pig and Rat.

The sun rises in the Hours of the Tiger, Rabbit, and Dragon,
yet people still do not fathom the tides of the world.

The sun crosses the meridian in the Hours of the Snake, Horse, and Sheep,
and my dao and the tides of the world are brightly revealed.

When the sun reaches its zenith,
the marketplace of my dao flourishes;

When trading subsides and the market closes,
a founding emperor emerges from the direction Jin.

Moreover, Sangjenim proclaimed, “When the rooster crows, dawn has come. When the dog barks, people are up and about. The destiny of one year lasts until the April of the next year. In the Years of the Dragon and  Snake, a holy sage emerges, and in the Years of the Horse and Sheep, bliss fills every house of my dao.

He also revealed, “When writings of illumination come forth, all minds will awaken.”

In a work of renewal, Sangjenim recited an old poem:


七八年間古國城은 畵中天地一餠成이요
黑衣飜北風千里하고 白日頃西夜五更이라

For seven-eight years, this fortress of an ancient land
is heaven and earth in a painting,
like a delectable morsel of rice cake.

A black coat flutters in the north;
the tempest blows one thousand ri.

A white sun sinks in the west;
night has grown deep.

東起靑雲空有靈하고 南來赤豹忽無聲이라
虎兎龍蛇相會日에 無辜人民萬一生이니라

A green cloud rises in the east, casting a Holy Spirit in the air.
A red leopard of the south suddenly goes silent.

At the time when the tiger, rabbit, dragon, and snake meet,
among the world’s people, though they are blameless,
only one in ten thousand survives.

Traditionally, in Korea and China, the day was divided into twelve hours according to the Twelve Earthly Branches. 
Each of these hours was equal to two Western hours. 
The Hour of the Rooster (“Hour Yu”) is from 5 to 7 pm; the Year of 2029  
the Hour of the Dog (“Hour Sul”), 7 to 9 pm; the Year of 2030  
the Hour of the Pig (“Hour Hae”), 9 to 11 pm; the Year of 2019  
the Hour of the Rat (“Hour Ja”), 11 pm to 1 am; the Year of 2020  
the Hour of the Ox (“Hour Chuk”), 1 to 3 am; the Year of 2021
the Hour of the Tiger (“Hour In”), 3 to 5 am; the Year of 2022
the Hour of the Rabbit (“Hour Myo”), from 5 to 7 am; the Year of 2023
the Hour of the Dragon (“Hour Jin”), 7 to 9 am; the Year of 2024
the Hour of the Snake (“Hour Sa”), 9 to 11 am; the Year of 2025
the Hour of the Horse (“Hour O”), 11 am to 1 pm; the Year of 2026
the Hour of the Sheep (“Hour Mi”), 1 to 3 pm; the Year of 2027
the Hour of the Monkey (“Hour Sin”), 3 to 5 pm; the Year of 2028  


Smallpox 
Will Foreshadow the Autumn Gaebyeok

One day, Sangjenim had dozens of disciples seat themselves in a room at Choe Chang-jo’s house and commanded, “Each of you, recite three words.” The disciples each recited three words from the Thousand Character Classic, starting from the beginning.
When it was Choe Deok-gyeom’s turn, the last word he called out was il (日). “Deok-gyeom must be fond of the Japanese king,” Sangjenim chided. “Do not imitate others. Just say whatever comes to your mind.”

The next evening, Sangjenim cleaned the tar from His tobacco pipe by pushing a thin roll of paper through it. As the paper began to emerge from the pipe’s end, Sangjenim said to Deok-gyeom, “Pull it out all at once, without letting go, then throw it outside the door.”

When Deok-gyeom did as commanded, all the dogs in the village began barking at once. Deok-gyeom asked, “Why are the dogs barking so?”

“It is because high spirits approach.”

“May I ask which spirits?”

The spirits of smallpox. These spirits shall come only to the nation of the son of heaven. The spirits of smallpox shall arrive before the arrival of My world. For a time in the future, there will be no smallpox, but when the time arrives, smallpox shall erupt. Understand that when it does so, the catastrophic disease is imminent. At the coming of the time, the distinguished shall be plucked like bean sprouts, so keep your mind pure and await the coming of My time.”

A Dosu for a Massive War; Keenly Observe the Grand Tides of the World

Sangjenim one day ordered the disciples, “Ascend Gumisan Mountain.” After Sangjenim ascended Gumisan Mountain, bypassing Yumungeori Crossroads, he asked, “What is the current time?”

“It is about noon,” a disciple answered.

At that time, Gim Ja-hyeon gazed down toward the marketplace and then informed Sangjenim, “The people at the marketplace are butting each other in the head.”

At this, all the disciples directed their attention to the marketplace and discerned that everyone in it, both men and women, had grabbed each other by the collar and were butting their heads. If they did not have an opponent, they butted their head against a pillar or wall.

Witnessing this, a disciple inquired of Sangjenim, “What is the nature of this dosu?”

“This is a dosu for war. I could compel all the world’s people to fight one another on the same day at the same hour, as in that marketplace,” Sangjenim revealed. “By all means, be mindful. My dosu is the dosu in which the outside converges inward, so keenly observe the grand tides of the world.”

At that moment, a disciple asked, “Since you conducted this work of renewal at the Hour of the Horse, does this mean that war will break out at the Hour of the Horse?

“That is something that you should all contemplate deeply,” Sangjenim said.
