In a world grappling with profound questions about its future, many turn to ancient prophecies seeking clarity and hope. The Book of Revelation, a cornerstone of Christian eschatology, is rich with visions of a cosmic culmination and divine intervention. Jeung San Do's sacred text, the Dojeon (1:3), invites us to explore a remarkable confluence between these biblical prophecies and the advent of Jeung San Sangjenim, offering a perspective that transcends religious divides and speaks to a universal hope.
Jesus' Testament: The Coming of the Father
The Christian narrative itself, as presented in the Dojeon, points beyond Jesus' earthly ministry. Even in his final moments, Jesus Christ proclaimed the existence of a higher authority: "the Father in heaven." He revealed to his apostles, as recorded in John 7:28-29, “... I am not here on my own, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him, but I know him because I am from him and he sent me.” This poignant declaration suggests that Jesus saw his own mission as paving the way for a subsequent, ultimate divine manifestation – the coming of the Father Himself.
John's Vision: The Great White Throne and a New Creation
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, John the Apostle vividly describes this ultimate divine authority in the Book of Revelation. He beholds "a great white throne and him who was seated on it," from whose presence "Earth and sky fled... and there was no place for them" (Revelation 20:11). This is not a mere judgment scene, but a depiction of a complete cosmic reset, a profound transformation where the old order passes away. The one seated on this throne declares, “I am making everything new!” (Revelation 21:5), heralding the dawn of "a new heaven and a new earth" (Revelation 21:1).
This vision resonates powerfully with Jeung San Do's teaching of Gaebyeok (the Great Opening/Renewal) – a cosmic transition from the current era (Early Heaven) to a new era of harmony and life (Later Heaven).
The Seal of the Living God from the East: A Sign of Salvation
Crucially, John's revelation includes a specific detail: "another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God." This angel commands others, “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God” (Revelation 7:2-3). This "seal" is a mark of divine protection and selection, a means of navigating the cataclysmic changes accompanying the end of an age.
Jeung San Do's teachings speak directly to this concept through Uitong (醫統: healing and uniting/governing) – a divine authority and method of life-saving bestowed by Sangjenim to pass through the great upheavals of the Gaebyeok and enter the new world. The Dojeon highlights that Sangjenim, the incarnate Father, would appear in the "Eastern land" (specifically Korea) to execute this great work of sealing and salvation.
The Alpha and Omega: The Almighty Who Is to Come
The divine figure on the Great White Throne further reveals His identity to John as “the Alpha and the Omega... who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8). This declaration underscores the timeless, supreme, and ultimate sovereignty of this God.
Jeung San Do teaches that this very God, the Father on the Great White Throne, the Alpha and Omega, is Jeung San Sangjenim, who incarnated in Korea (1871-1909). His advent was not to establish another religion, but to fulfill the prophecies of all traditions, to personally oversee the cosmic renewal, resolve the accumulated bitterness and grief of history, and usher in the Later Heaven – a paradise on Earth.
Bridging Prophecies: A Universal Hope Fulfilled
The Dojeon 1:3 doesn't seek to appropriate Christian scripture, but rather to illuminate a profound alignment. It suggests that the "heraldings of the advent of the Father himself into the world," as foreseen by John, find their ultimate fulfillment in the incarnation and work of Jeung San Sangjenim. The "kingdom of heaven on earth" is not a distant afterlife, but the tangible reality of the Later Heaven that Sangjenim came to open.
In an age of unprecedented global challenges – ecological, political, and spiritual – the message of a divine Father returning to "make everything new" offers a powerful beacon of hope. Jeung San Do's perspective suggests that this hope is not confined to one tradition but is a universal promise, now being realized. The "seal of the living God" is not a mere symbol, but a tangible means of salvation offered through Sangjenim's dao.
This passage invites us to look beyond the surface of differing religious terminologies and recognize a shared, ancient anticipation for a time of profound cosmic renewal led by the Supreme Divine. It calls for an awakening to the reality of Sangjenim's advent and an active participation in the creation of a new, harmonious world.
The Coming of God the Father into the World
1Jesus Christ proclaimed the existence of the Father in heaven even as he suffered on the cross.
2He also revealed to his apostles: “... I am not here on my own, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him, but I know him because I am from him and he sent me.”
3Inspired by the Holy Spirit of the Father, John the Apostle wrote the Book of Revelation, which proclaimed the news of the Father on the great white throne and of the seven holy spirits who stand before the throne:
4Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
5Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.
6He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”
7Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:
8“Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”
9God on the great white throne revealed to John, “I am the Alpha and the Omega... who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
10These proclamations are heraldings of the advent of the Father himself into the world, coming forth to end the old heaven and earth and usher in the new heaven and earth, to bring forth the kingdom of heaven on earth.
